The founder and Learning Consultant at TEI, Joshua Barnhill brought 20 years of experience as a business leader, instructional designer, and professional writer when he formed TEI as his consulting brand in May 2014. Over the next two years he designed and built learning solutions for Airbnb, Leidos, Microsoft, and others. He approaches opportunities with curiosity and energy.

Defined new Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) product type for B2B SaaS product. Designed and built VILT course for a B2B cloud service. Coached a new PM on product management for new product development. Refined portfolio plan for paid offerings in Avalara University.

As an independent consultant, designed an online host-training course for Airbnb and a consumer credit-skills online course for RevolutionCredit. Built a blended learning curriculum for Leidos Corporation to support a new internal business process. Designed and wrote part of a customer representative onboarding ILT course for Republic Services. For Microsoft, designed and built a two-day instructor-led workshop for ATS Academy (Sales), designed a two-day sales summit, and built online courses for device demand planning and promotions.

Senior Content Publisher

Planned and designed “Build Your First App with TouchDevelop” e-course for high-school age students, for Microsoft YouthSpark and MS Research.

Designed Microsoft Digital Literacy e-learning versions 3 and 4, including new content for career opportunities, Cloud computing, Office Web Apps and building Web and phone apps using TouchDevelop – reaching 4 million learners/year in 30+ languages. Managed relationship with development team at Garage Games.

Created product specification for new line of Classroom Lesson Plans for IT Academies designed to transform short e-learning courses into quarter-length classroom experiences mapped to the US Common Core. Planned and shipped lesson plans for Office for Mac, Windows 8.1, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access. Managed relationship with development team at Online Training Solutions Inc.

Designed custom IT Academy curricula for 12 US states, creating 50+ course maps that include e-learning, instructor-led courses and relevant industry certifications.

Product Manager

Established business model, market strategy and positioning for new line of business-skills instructor-led training courses, based on market and competitor analysis and focus-group research.

Managed relationship with publishing partner John Wiley & Sons for Microsoft Official Academic Courses.

Planned and shipped Student Study Guides (for Microsoft Technology Associate certification) on HTML5 application development, gaming development, mobile development and software testing.

Forecasted and managed annual product-development budgets, ranging from $500K to $1.6M, over last decade – spanning ILT, e-learning, books and exams.

Led annual planning and rhythm-of business-cadence for Academic portfolio plan, for Microsoft Learning in 2014 and 2015, collaborating with cross-organization stakeholders.

Instructional Designer, Project Manager

Led team of seven FTE Microsoft project managers through transition from primary development responsibility to scaled vendor outsource model.

Designed and project-managed world’s first SharePoint and Microsoft .NET training courses.
